A Bit About Me
Hi, I’m Mark. I’m 36 years old, single and lead a fairly sedentary lifestyle. I spend most of my day sitting at a desk, and until recently, did absolutely no exercise at all.
Up until about the age of 30, I weighed less than 70kg. Since then, I’ve slowly but steadily gained weight and never really cared about it, peaking at about 88kg earlier this year (Jan 2008). Around this time, I put my back out. It’s the third time this had happened in the last 18 months, but this time the pain was unbearable, and I was virtually crippled. It took me two hours just to get out of bed. The physiotherapist I went to worked wonders, and with the aid of some simple pilates exercises, I was pain free in about six weeks.
This was a bit of a wakeup call about my health and so I started doing a lot of walking, which was about all I could manage with my level of fitness. I also started eating a lot less, and a lot healthier. That went well for a couple of months until winter started, and then I stopped.
About two months ago, my workplace offered a subsidised subscription to the local gym. I’d never been inside a gym in my life, but I figured it was about time I gave it a go and try to improve my fitness and lose some weight. Well, in two months my fitness has definitely improved, but I haven’t lost a lot of weight, maybe one or two kilograms. The main reason for this is I did not change my eating and drinking habits.
So, now I’m going to try alternate day fasting in an attempt to lose some weight. My goal is to get down to 75kg. Actually, what I really want is to lose my fat guts and flabby flanks. So here goes….
